The Impact of Choosing Sustainable Brands - DEVAN GREGORI

The Impact of Choosing Sustainable Brands

When it comes to making purchasing decisions, many people are starting to consider more than just the price and quality of a product. They are also taking into account the impact that their choices have on the environment and society. This shift in consumer behavior has led to the rise of sustainable brands, which prioritize ethical and eco-friendly practices. But what exactly is the impact of choosing sustainable brands? In this blog post, we will explore four ways that choosing sustainable brands can have a big impact.

1. Reducing Environmental Footprint

One of the most significant ways that choosing sustainable brands makes a difference is by reducing the environmental footprint. Sustainable brands often prioritize using renewable resources, minimizing waste, and reducing carbon emissions. For example, they may use recycled materials in their products or implement energy-efficient manufacturing processes. By supporting these brands, consumers contribute to the preservation of natural resources and the reduction of pollution.

Our brand aims to be as sustainable as possible within the means that we have. One of the ways we do this is by only ordering as much primary material as we need for each collection. That means sometimes we pay more to produce less. The same goes for our small batch manufacturing process. We pay more per piece at a lower minimum than we would if we maximized the number of pieces made. However we don't pass this extra cost on to our customers. We recognize that buying sustainably is already costing a premium, and our choice of producing in small batches, with the goal of incrementally increasing production as we scale, is just that - our choice.

2. Promoting Ethical Labor Practices

Another important impact of choosing sustainable brands is the promotion of ethical labor practices. Sustainable brands are committed to ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and the absence of child or any exploitive labor in their supply chains. By purchasing products from these brands, consumers support companies that prioritize the well-being and rights of workers. This can help create a positive change in the global labor market and contribute to the fight against exploitation.

At Devan Gregori, we proudly work with a small manufacturer that prioritizes the wellbeing of their workers. How do we know? Devan has travelled to work alongside the team on several occasions and is in constant communication with them on a regular basis. In addition to all observed holidays, everyone is paid a living wage and are treated as contributing members of the team. Ethical labor practices is a core tenant of our brand, and it's vital that the talent and expertise that is put into the making of each of our pieces is recognized, valued and properly compensated for.

3. Driving Innovation

Choosing sustainable brands also plays a crucial role in driving innovation. These brands are often at the forefront of developing new technologies and practices that are more environmentally friendly and socially responsible. By supporting sustainable brands, consumers contribute to the demand for these innovative solutions. This, in turn, encourages more companies to invest in research and development of sustainable alternatives, leading to a positive cycle of progress and change.

Innovation comes in many forms, big and small. One way we are trying to create some positive change in the fashion industry is by creating a safe, fun space for people to come and try on new styles. With so much pressure on body image, staying forever young and airbrushed perfection, trying on clothes can often be an intimidating and sometimes shameful experience. We want to reverse that entire concept by embracing and celebrating your body, by playing with shape, proportion, pattern and color in a safe and affirming space.

Another way we try and emulate this way of thinking is by carefully choosing how we take our product photography. We strive to show our clothes on a diverse range of body shapes, sizes and complexions. We want to be an inspirational brand not an aspirational brand. What does that mean? Basically, we don't want you to aspire to be any different than who you are now. We want to inspire you to be the best version of yourself that you can be.

4. Influencing Industry Standards

Lastly, choosing sustainable brands can have a significant impact on industry standards. As more consumers demand sustainable products, companies are forced to adapt to meet these expectations. This can lead to a shift in industry practices, with more companies adopting sustainable measures to stay competitive. By supporting sustainable brands, consumers send a powerful message to the industry that sustainability is not just a trend but a necessity. This can ultimately lead to a more sustainable and responsible business landscape.

Choosing sustainable brands goes beyond just making a purchase. It has a big impact on the environment, labor practices, innovation, and industry standards. By supporting these brands, consumers become agents of change and contribute to a more sustainable future. So, thank you for supporting small business!
